I give my pekingese Royal Canin and I just got a maltipoo puppy that I’m in the process of switching her food from pro plan to royal canin. Is Royal Canin really good food? I’ve never had a never before and a trainer recommended Royal Canin but then another person said that its not good food for dogs because some dogs had died because of that brand of dog food.
Also, I would go with a food that has only human grade ingredients. For all you that may not know, most rendering plants also render dogs and cats along with the drugs use to euthanize them, flea collars and tags. Also spoiled meat from supermarkets complete with the plastic wrap and foam trays. I would say that 90% of the dog food out there is garbage and will over time kill your dog.
Thank you Eric, if your video get even one person to think then you have done your job. CANIDAE is a quality food made from, I believe, only human grade ingredients or at least it used to be. There are a lot of people I talk to that have had problems with it since the formula change. Also if it says Lamb meal that means that % of lamb is higher than the other stuff that is in there and not that lamb is the only meat source that could be in that particular batch. Whole lamb may be better.
Thank you Eric, I was wondering if grain free foods would affect my husky’s overall health. We are avid runners and I am operating under the assumption my husky needs his carbs?
Looked like an empty bag of CANIDAE there. I’ve had a few empty bags myself. GREAT stuff!
We need more videos exposing the commercial dog food industry. If these things were allowed in the human food chain the manufacturers would be arrested - or killed - yet it is perfectly legal for the pet food industry to market this sewage in their dog food and use euphemisms like “meat digest” (contents of stomach & intestines) in their list of “ingredients”. If it’s unfit for human consumption it should be ilegal to feed to your pet.
I like this video, but I’ve got a hard enough time checking the labels on my own foods. Is there a brand that you suggest. My adult male Pekingese was mauled by a large St. Bernard 1 wk ago & he survived (w/ surgery). He has a hard time eating, but I’ve been hand-feeding him Science Diet adult canned beef entree…he eats about 3 oz (wt) per day for a 14 lb Peke. It has some rice in it. Is that ok for his recovery, or should he eat puppy food for more healing calories? what about then he’s well?
Excellent. I have never heard of it but I will check it out. Thanks for sharing.
I feed my GSD Timberwolf Organics…it seems to help my dog and it is a natural food source.
Thank you for sharing this video. Good, simple points that people can easily remember and understand. At the least, people might think before they decide to grab that bag of dollar store dog food.
Thanks keegan.
Hey Anne: Where did you earn your Ph.D. in nutritional chemistry at? I earned mine at Texas A&M, and I find that Eric provided some very good information in a < 3 minute video.
Thanks for your comments!
If “balanced and complete” foods for people were found to cut a person’s lifespan in HALF, would they still be sold? Why do we allow this for pets?
When biased information is not used, the controversy of canine nutrition suddenly disappears.
The general dog-owning public needs real information, not over-simplified and abridged versions.
Dog nutrition is a very indepth and controversial subject. This video is meant to be a brief introduction for the general dog owning public to raise their awareness of what is actually in their dog’s food, and if feeding a commercial food, what is best to look for.
Maybe you should look up the legal definition of meat by-products. A whole meat is far better than a meat meal.
Dogs have no nutritional need for grains and digesting grain places great stress on pancreatic function.
